Firewood For Sale In Rockland County & Northern Bergen

Each year, Suffern Tree Service gets more than a few calls from homeowners about firewood they’ve received from other firewood suppliers in Rockland County and Northern Bergen. The wood just doesn’t burn! It smokes and smolders, but that’s about it. When we bring them a cord of our wood, we point out the differences. Their wood is green and often it’s not split finely enough to produce a quality fire.

Suffern Tree Sells Only High-Quality Firewood

Andrew Owen, Suffern Tree’s president, guarantees his firewood. If you have any trouble burning it, just call him, and he’ll come over and personally burn it in your fireplace. Often new homeowners just aren’t skilled at getting a fire started, and education is one of the services we offer.

The average homeowner does not give much thought to their firewood. For the most part, if it burns their mind goes to other things besides firewood. By the way, many people in both Rockland County and Northern Bergen search under the term “fire wood”; it is actually one word. Whether you call it fire wood or firewood, here a few things you should consider before purchasing.

5 Things To Consider Before You Say Yes To Anyone Selling Firewood Especially In Northern Bergen Or Rockland County

  1. Does your supplier sell cords of wood that are the proper length for your fireplace? Suffern Tree’s normal firewood cuts its wood to 18”-22”. We also sell smaller logs for people with small fireplaces or wood stoves.
  2. Does your firewood supplier season their wood to ensure it is not green and burns properly? Green wood is very smoky and does not burn well. Every year, at Suffern Tree Service, we split our firewood between our tree service jobs so that we can stack it and let it age properly before delivering it to our customers.
  3. Only buy cords of wood that primarily consist of hardwoods. Hardwoods burn hotter, releasing more BTUs than softwoods over a longer period of time. (BTU – British Thermal Units are a measure of heat created by burning something.) Hardwoods are not only safer but also give you more heat for your dollar.
  4. Does your supplier neatly stack your cords of wood or just dump it in a pile? At Suffern Tree, we always offer to neatly stack your firewood so that it has proper ventilation and looks neat and tidy.
  5. Does your firewood supplier leave your property neat? As part of our delivery service, Suffern Tree representatives always rakes up any wood chips and debris that may fall on the ground while we are working. It is our goal to leave every yard neater than we found it.

A Public Service Notice For Your Information: NYS Quarantine On The Emerald Ash Borer

Burn it where you Buy It ! NYS Quarantine on The Emerald Ash Borer

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation enforces regulations that govern the movement of all firewood, not just ash wood. There is a restriction covering the interstate movement of untreated firewood to no more than a 50-mile radius from its source.

New York State has a quarantine to prevent the spread of the invasive Emerald Ash Borer, a tree-killing beetle. Native to Asia, EAB was likely introduced to the area in the mid-1990’s in ash wood used for shipping pallets and packing materials in cargo ships or shipping containers. The Emerald Ash Borer feeds on and will eventually kill all native ash trees. Slowing their spread is imperative.
